Over the past several years the Town has been working toward developing design plans for improvements to sidewalks, lighting, and other amenities in the Atlantic Beach District. The concepts for such improvements were discussed during the Atlantic Beach District Master Plan process, with recommendations included in the 2007 report (https://middletownri.gov/224/Atlantic-Beach-District-Master-Plan). The Town has engaged designers at consulting firm VHB to assist with developing plans. That work is currently at the 30% design stage. The 30% plans have been reviewed by Town staff and volunteer committees, and were presented during a public workshop session held on October 23, 2024. The Town Council will receive a presentation of the plans during its March 3rd regular meeting, and will consider allowing the project proceed to full design. Funding for construction will be sought through the state's transportation improvement program (STIP).
