STUDENT OF THE WEEK:

MIDDLETOWN HIGH SCHOOL NINTH GRADER ABIGAIL WAGONBLOTT

MIDDLETOWN, RI (MAY 16, 2025) – In each of the schools across Middletown, there are students doing excellent, noteworthy things. As part of a feature from the town, a different student will be spotlighted for their efforts to make Middletown a special place to live, work and play.

Name: Abigail Wagonblott

School: Middletown High School

Grade: Ninth

Parent(s)/Guardian(s): Danielle & Richard Wagonblott

Accomplishment(s): “Even with her hearing difficulties, Abigail always goes above and beyond the standard in her effort toward every English assignment as well as helping others in her classes — and the school,” English Teacher Lisa O’Bryan said. “She competed on the junior varsity girls’ volleyball team, is always doing something for Islanders Committed student group and the attends Christian Club meetings. I always see her helping others and doing her best to learn as much as she can.”

Quotable: "Life isn't yours if you always care what other people think."

Dream Job: “I want to work as a computer scientist because I find technology to be the next best thing and it good to understand it if it’s going to be in our every day lives.”

Favorite Meal: Sushi

Free Time: I would read or organize my room or watch tv.

Who I Look Up To: “I look up to my mom because she has helped me through a lot and she has always told me to believe in myself.”

Best Part Of Middletown: I would say the activities and sights to see.

Inspirations: “I feel that people around me inspires me to do better.”

Top Hangout: “I would say downtown Newport because there are pretty sights and many places to go.”

Recommended Reading: “I would recommend reading ‘The Counselors’ by Jessica Goodman because it is a mystery with many twists and turns to keep you interested.”

Best Subject In School: “I would say math because it was my easiest subject. I have fun trying to figure things out and learn to never give up.”

Teacher/Staff Member I’d Like To Thank: “I would like to thank my Eighth Grade English and Eighth Grade History Teacher. Mrs. (Judith) Crowley helped me learn many things and believed in me to do better. Mrs. (Trina) Bona always helped me with my hearing disability and made sure I was ok, especially if I needed help to study.”
