GETTING TO KNOW — MICHAEL CAZZARRO
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (JUNE 28, 2023) – Michael Cazzarro is a new probationary police officer for the Middletown Police Department. Recently, Cazzarro shared his thoughts on law enforcement and beyond during a question and answer session.
- Why did you first get interested in becoming a police officer?
- It seemed to have a very good crossover of skills and lifestyle from the military. The fact that it's an active profession where no day is really the same was also quite appealing.
2. Did you have someone who inspired you to pursue a career in law enforcement?
- I have many friends who are state and municipal police officers all over New England who gave me the Idea to pursue this career.
3. What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?
- Doing things that actually impact someone and the community that you can see up front and directly.
4. What would you say to someone considering a career in law enforcement?
- If you want a career where no day is the same and a career where you can directly impact someone's lives positively do it.
5. What advice would you give to someone who is interacting with a police officer?
- Just be patient and respectful.
6. Why is law enforcement a career more young people should consider?
- It is a career with a lot of avenues to progress and take. As you don't have to be a patrolman you can find avenues that fit you and your personality the best which there is a lot of.
7. Relay a quick story about how you helped someone doing what you do and the way it made you feel?
- I once helped a friend of mine who cut their foot open on the beach. The injury was bad enough to where he was unable to walk. I was able to render him first aid and call 911 and get him to a rescue. It was because of the actions my friends and I took that he has had very few issues with foot or walking since the incident. This in general made me feel like I did something good and that I had a positive impact on some which I liked a lot.
8. What’s one thing that surprised you about being a police officer?
- How multi-faceted the job can be there are a lot of different things going on at one time on every call and situation you're involved in which is challenging but interesting and rewarding as well.
9. Name one thing most people don’t understand or fully appreciate about being in law enforcement?
- The patience and professionalism that has to be maintained at all times. No matter how bad of a day you're having, the public can't see it as they look to you for help and support.
