MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS
Middletown Town Council
When: Monday night.
Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road.
Absent: None.
Of note, the council:
- Unanimously approved a one-year extension to the Public Works Teamsters contract, which included a 1 percent pay hike for laborers. “It’s a good contract and it’s consistent with what we’ve been doing,” council President Paul M. Rodrigues said.
- Discussed modest tweaks to the Town’s short-term rental and trash disposal rules to try to make sure that such operations are good neighbors and cause minimal impacts across the community.
- Approved a proposal from Councilwoman Terri Flynn to have Town legal counsel provide a brief update on the latest news with the National Grid’s plans for the Old Mill Lane facility in Portsmouth.
- Heard that public input will factor prominently in the process to redevelop “Middletown Commons,” the 15-acre site currently home to the former Navy Lodge, West Main Road Recreational Complex, the Middletown Public Library as well as the former Kennedy School. The Town has a memorandum of understanding with developers Chris Bicho, James Karam and Rocky Kempenaar.
Next meeting: Monday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. from Town Hall.
