MIDDLETOWN HOLIDAY CARD ART CELEBRATION 2022
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (DECEMBER 22, 2022) – The Town of Middletown celebrated with the winners of the “Holiday Card Art” contest this week.
At an intimate gathering Wednesday afternoon in Town Hall, Town Administrator Shawn J. Brown and others applauded everyone who participated in this year’s event, which featured a “Middletown Landmarks” around the holidays theme.
He extended special thanks to his administrative assistant Maureen Maurer, who handled the contest from start to finish and helped draw a record number of entries.
“This is our third year of doing this and it’s something special for the town,” Brown said. “We used to order our cards, but now we do this and it’s a true reflection of what a wonderful community we live in.”
In addition to a framed print of their entry, winners each received a gift card as a show of appreciation from the town.
They were:
Kevin Hagan and his depiction of Prescott Farm in the snow
Carmen Rugel and her photo of the “Mystery Tree” at Surfer’s End

Vivienne W. and her Hanging Rock at the holidays

Isla Palumbo and her drawing playing with her brother in the sand and surf at Second Beach

Andrew Brooks and his photo of Boyd’s Windmill in the snow

The town administrator Brown said the holiday cards are an important part of the town’s continuing outreach to the community — and beyond. He said they are typically mailed to employees, contractors, vendors, consultants and most importantly, the countless volunteers who give their time and energy to making Middletown marvelous.
“I know for a fact Governor (Dan) McKee received one of our cards and it also went to our Congressional delegation too,” Brown said. “The cards are far reaching and there are a lot of people who are very proud of the work that was done here.”
Also on hand was recently elected Town Councilman Peter Connerton, who thanked everyone for their hard work.
“When you see them in person, they’re that much more impressive,” Connerton said. “They definitely represent Middletown really well.”
